Grant To Improve Patient Point-Of-Care Technologies In Neurologic Emergencies

A leading cause of disability in the United States is a neurological event such as stroke, head injury or drug abuse. Regardless of the cause, the brain is often quickly and irreversibly damaged. UC researchers, funded by a $9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, will study point-of-care technologies to assist the diagnosis and treatment of patients with neurologic emergencies. The result is the “Point-of-Care Center for Emerging Neuro Technologies.

Understanding Synesthesia Moves Closer With Research At Rice

International Expert Group Initiates Largest Multi-center Phase III Trial To Evaluate NeuroAid(TM) In Stroke Recovery

Study Of Stroke Patient Sheds Light On Sensory Perception

The ventrolateral nucleus (VL) of the thalamus is connected to the cerebellum and motor cortex and therefore thought to be involved in motor function. A new study to be published in Annals of Neurology, the official journal of the American Neurological Association, found that the VL also plays a role in sensory processing and that damage to this area leads to functional and neural changes.
