X Chromosome Inactivation During Drosophila Spermatogenesis

During spermatogenesis, the X chromosome is inactivated in the male germline (sperm cells), thereby silencing, or inactivating, genes residing on the X chromosome. Ministers Launch Northern Ireland Self-Harm Registry Pilot Devins “Suicide Respects No Boundaries - Geographical Or Political”, Ireland

Mr Jimmy Devins, T.D., Minister for State at the Department of Health and Children was speaking today following a meeting with Minister Harney and Minister McGimpsey, Minister for Health in Northern Ireland. The Minister said he “acknowledged the importance and value of adopting an all island approach in creating awareness of suicide and collaborating in the area of suicide prevention”. He added “A concerted approach is needed if we are to prevent the further tragic loss of life”.

Geriatric Mental Health Nursing Receives $1.2M Grant

Study Of Mental Disorders Has Surprising Results

According to a study conducted at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health among lesbian, gay, and bisexual populations, blacks and Latinos do not have more mental disorders than whites. Based on the theory that stress related to prejudice would increase risk for mental disorders, researchers typically expect that black lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals face prejudice related to both racism and homophobia and therefore would have more disorders than their white counterparts.

Asians Less Likely Than Black Or White People To Be Satisfied With Specialist Community Mental Health Services, UK

A new study examining ethnic differences in patients’ experiences of specialist community mental health services has found that relative to White British people, Asian service users were most likely to respond negatively. In some aspects of services, no ethnic differences were apparent. Minority ethnic groups in the UK are reported to have a poor experience of mental health services, but until now comparative information has been scarce.
