Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (OTCBB: PVCT) announced preliminary results of its Phase 1 clinical trial of Provecta for the treatment of metastatic melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. Provecta demonstrated minimal side effects, significant efficacy and bystander effect on melanoma tumors in stage III patients. The study evaluated safety and efficacy of Provecta in a total of 20 subjects at two sites in Australia.

A human peptide that acts as a natural antibiotic against invading microbes can also bind to the body’s own DNA and trigger an immune response in the absence of an infection, a research team led by scientists at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center reports in an early online publication in Nature.”This combination of the peptide and self-DNA activates the same immune response pathway as a virus does,” says senior author Michel Gilliet, M.D.

A landmark publication that appeared in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology reports the results of a large, two site blinded clinical study. The paper is entitled “The Impact of In Vivo Reflectance Confocal Microscopy for the Diagnostic Accuracy of Melanoma and Equivocal Melanocytic Lesions.” The study, lead by Dr. Giovanni Pellacani, contained a total of 351 equivocal melanocytic lesions that were difficult for expert dermoscopists to diagnose.
